Planning for Candidates School 2006 has begun!
September 6, 2005 by DCClarke
The Candidates School Committee has been very busy over the last few months organizing the Candidates School 2006! We hope to improve on the success of the last two schools by adding new and helpful content for candidates. For 2006, the Candidates School will feature a segment on campaigning to various demographic and special interest groups. We have invited members from business, labor and environmental groups to discuss political issues that are of particular interest to them. In addition, we will feature an entire breakout session on political issues important to senior citizens. And continuing with our success in 2004, we will again provide focused sessions on political issues important to women and minorities. Of course, all of the nuts and bolts of running a campaign will be discussed in detail, along with an updated resource manual for each student. Finally, for 2006, we will feature a companion program specifically tailored to high school students that will feature topics ranging from involvement in the political process to civic awareness. This program will run simultaneously with the main candidates school and will provide an excellent opportunity to introduce prospective young politicians to the political process and the duties of promoting honest, responsible and responsive government. Further details will be announced soon!

As someone who has attended the candidates school, I believe that any one person who has even contemplated the idea of public service should attend. The wealth of knowledge through the different workshops allows for necessary insight into the disciplines needed in order to run for office.
