Watchdog group's proposals gain support from Assembly candidates
Operation Clean Government’s update of its General Assembly candidate survey shows growing acceptance of its 2011 legislative agenda, according to Marie Sorman, president of the citizen activist group. “These returns show that OCG could have a significant impact on the state next session,” she said.
Sorman points out that of 221 candidates, 94 have responded with very strong support for its 2011 legislative agenda. Candidate responses were from 51 Republicans, 25 Democrats, 16 Independents and 2 Moderates. The senate and house districts were well represented with responses from 76 percent of the Senate districts and 59 percent of the House districts.
Current and potential Assembly members were asked four questions about the group’s proposed legislative initiatives for 2011.
Some questioned the cost of an Office for an Inspector General because of the current budget crisis or because they needed more facts about how to have an “independent” Inspector General.
